A paid Circle community for accountants who want to build with AI and automation. We’ve been running since August 2024 with 500+ members. The room is open to everyone who does the work in a firm (not just firm owners): bookkeepers, payroll specialists, ops and admin staff, senior accountants, managers, firm owners, accounting students, AND the product teams from the tools you use. Yes, and it’s easier than you think. Most members aren’t technical when they show up. The room moves at the pace of someone who opened Claude for the first time last week, not at developer pace. You bring a workflow you’d like to make easier, and the community walks the rest of the way with you.

Not a chance. Plenty of members finish builds without writing a line of code. But if you’re on the nerdier side of this stuff, I think you’ll find your people here.

Local AI for accounting firms. Over three sessions (September 3, 10 and 17, 2026), Jon Barnes of Merkat breaks down what “local AI” actually means and how a firm can run models on its own hardware instead of relying entirely on tools hosted by someone else. You will cover what open-source and open-weight models are, the hardware involved (from a Mac mini through to an NVIDIA DGX Spark and cloud-hosted machines), what it takes to keep data inside your own environment, how Vertex, Bedrock and Azure Foundry fit in, what these setups actually cost, and how a firm can start experimenting without building an AI infrastructure team. The arc runs from your own hardware, to cloud AI infrastructure, to what a realistic setup looks like inside a firm. Cohorts 1 to 3 are all recorded and searchable in the archive.

Cohort 2 ran May 6 to June 10, 2026: five weeks building a Claude agent for your firm, anchored on Northside CPA, a fictional 12-person cloud firm.

• Week 1. Pick a workflow, write a strong brief, get your first real output.
• Week 2. Give Claude a real job with Cowork and Projects.
• Week 3. Turn the workflow into a reusable Skill: bank rec review, missing docs follow-up, P&L review, advisory briefs.
• Week 4. Build a team-facing asset, or go deeper with Claude Code.
• Week 5. Launch your first agentic workflow safely, with scheduled tasks and review points.

It wrapped with a demo day where members showed what they built, from daily email digests to full internal apps, and voted for the winners. Every session is recorded, transcribed, and searchable, so you can run the whole cohort on your own schedule.

Nah. Every live session is recorded and posted right after it ends. Transcripts go up for the bigger sessions so you can run them through your own AI. Members who only watch recordings still build stuff and contribute to discussions async.

Most sessions land at 3pm ET or earlier, which is evening in the UK and EU and next-morning watching for Australia. Circle is open all the time. A meaningful share of members are outside the US and Canada, so you won’t be the only one.

Yes. Every live session, every cohort session, and every guest presentation is recorded the same day, transcribed, timestamped, and searchable. The library has been growing since Aug 2024. That includes all five Cohort 3 sessions, so nothing is lost if you can’t make one live.

No. Product team members are members like everyone else. They’re in the room to help and to learn, not to sell. I didn’t let them in for the longest time, but having them here has been so helpful and gives people who normally don’t have that level of access a voice directly to the apps they love and use every day. Plus, a little friendly talk about competitors helps move things along :)

A lot of automation agencies are already inside the community and take on professional work for members. We’re also launching a Certified Builders directory soon, where you’ll be able to browse and contact vetted builders directly. In the meantime, post what you need and someone usually offers to help. A lot of members have worked with agencies that provide help here, and that’s one of the biggest benefits of the community.
